Q&A
- Page 2:
Q:
Is it a program that provides mentors?
TAYLOR: We do not have
a mentorship design. We are more interested
in people who are either ready for prime
time or almost ready for prime time. Our
focus is on really trying to connect people
as directly as possible with jobs with Fox.
We are not quite as involved on the mentoring
level.
Q: Do you intend to introduce
a mentoring program?
TAYLOR: Probably not. We
do some things to help with writer development,
in particular, through our Fox Writers Initiative.
But our main focus is trying to give Fox
series the benefit of a diverse perspective
… as quickly as possible. And that
means finding people who are ready to work
in a professional level. We’re looking
for professional level performance.
Q: What are you looking
for in the writers?
TAYLOR: We do need a professional
quality of writing and something that shows
a real depth of imagination. It is a subjective
business. And a lot of people want to be
writers, and a lot of people think they’re
good, and there are so few real opportunities
available, considering the number of reality
shows.
Ultimately, the decision lies with our show
runners. We don’t hire people. We
connect them to the people who hire.
Q: How do you find writers?
TAYLOR: We have found writers
through our Fox Writers Initiative. We begin
to take submissions beginning Jan. 1, 2005.
Most of the writers I find through the agents
and managers in the industry. We do, occasionally,
find people through our writers initiative
who are not represented by agents.
