Q&A
- Page 1:
Q:
Diversity development?
TAYLOR: Fox Diversity Development
is a corporate level department that works
to further the business and creative relationship
between Fox and the diverse community. That
means that we look for creative talent,
particularly writers, and actor, director
talent, for Fox Television production. And
we also look for diverse-owned businesses
that provide products and services that
Fox can use--any kind of products that Fox
business units consume.
Q: Your department functions
both in creative and non-creative roles?
TAYLOR: Our department
serves both functions.
Q: Define diversity.
TAYLOR: The definition
of diversity changes from institution to
institution. The WGA, Writers Guild of America,
has a different definition than, say, some
other organizations. At Fox, our definition
of diversity is cultural, which is to say
it does not mean women, per se. It does
not mean, at this juncture, disabled. It
means, basically, cultural diversity—that
is to say black, Latino, Asian, Native American,
Arab American, East Indian. Essentially,
culturally non-white.
Q: Do you feel you have
been successful in expanding diversity at
Fox?
TAYLOR: I think there are
a number of individuals, who are working
today, particularly as writers on staff
with shows at Fox--in a couple of cases
at other networks, because of the support
that Fox Diversity gives them. Two-thirds
of the writers on Fox shows are writers
that have been placed, in some degree, by
Fox Diversity.
