Texas native Jerry A. Henry was
selected amongst a group of 6 aspiring
young filmmakers to serve as a unit director/
videographer on the PBS documentary series
“Senior Year. Immediately after
completing the series he returned to the
University of California’s prestigious
MFA Production Program. During Sept of
2001, Jerry was commissioned by the organization
Urgent Africa to complete a documentary
on the opening of the NIA Health and Resource
Center in the rural village of Majiwa
in Kenya, Africa. He is currently working
as a videographer for Peter Jennings ABC
on a documentary that is covering the
first year of the LAPD police Chief Bratton
and a documentary series entitled “USC
Medical” and “Plastic Surgery
Before and After” for Discovery
Channel Health.

Tragedy is something the entire world
experiences; sometimes simultaneously.
During the tragedies of 9/11, I was in
a rural village in Kenya shooting a documentary
about orphans. This is what I witnessed.

S. Pearl
Sharp's work focuses on cultural arts,
health and Black history. An independent
filmmaker, she created the semi-animated
short Picking Tribes with artist Carlos
Spivey, which won four national awards
and screened on PBS, Life Is A Saxophone
on poet Kamau Daa'ood, the controversial
women's health video, It's O.K. To Peek,
and over the past twelve years has line
produced, written and directed documentaries
for the City of Los Angeles' CH 35, including
Central Avenue Live!, L.A. to L.A., Spirits
of the Ancestors and Fertile Ground: Stories
From The Watts Towers Arts Center. She's
the author of Black Women For Beginners
(non-fiction),
two produced plays and is a recurring
commentator on NPR Radio's "The Tavis
Smiley Show."
"The Healing Passage"
How
do we heal from the residuals of The Middle
Passage? Cultural artists look at present
day behavior connected to the psychological
trauma of the trans-Atlantic slave trade
and use their tools -- dolls, altars,
spoken word, music, dance, visual art,
ritual and memory --- to create paths
to healing the mind, spirit and community.
